Things we learned (October 12 - 16)

We voted for our favourite Peter Reynolds book. And the winner is...

...the Dot. But I told the kids that if you voted for a book that didn't become the winner, that doesn't mean you lose. Because if another survey was done in another class, another book might come out as the most popular.

For art, the children did their own pumpkins based on answers about themselves. Depending on their answers, the shape of the pumpkin can look different. I will post their pumpkins soon.

For science, we are dealing the seasonal changes. And I read the book, The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons. The book is well written and shows how the apple tree changes through the four seasons.

After that, we talked about the changes of the apple tree in each season. We drew the picture and described with words of the Apple tree. Maya and the others said it is like a cycle because it repeats again over and over through the years. Good connection because we talked about cycles previously.

For language, we talked about the famous poem, Humpty Dumpty. From the poem, I wanted them to make story that has a beginning, middle and end. With this in mind, I modelled to the children...

...the beginning...

...the middle...

And the end...

The kids who have finished their writing get to colour the pictures. They love colouring the pictures.

Have a great day!
